Building the ecosystems that bring children to school and keep them there
We bridge the gap for vulnerable communities and out-of-school children, promoting school enrollment, attendance and retention.
At ILP, “Schooling” means more than enrollment. It means ensuring every child gets to school, stays in school, learns well, and transitions smoothly to higher classes. We work primarily in remote, rural, and disadvantaged communities a who have minimal access to education. Our work starts with the community: activating parents, mothers’ committees, and School Monitoring Committees to take ownership of their children’s education.
When communities own education, everything changes
Activating parents, mothers’ committees, SMCs, and child parliaments to take ownership of their schools and their children’s education.
Community campaigns Street plays, awareness programmes, and door-to-door campaigns highlight the importance of education and bring children – especially girls – into classrooms. Because she spoke up, a child marriage was stopped
An illustrated story based on a real incident where an underage girl’s marriage was prevented through the intervention of ILP’s community network – mothers’ committees, school monitoring committees, and local volunteers who recognized the signs and acted before it was too late.
When a school becomes everyone’s responsibility
At a government lower primary school in Bagalkot district, Karnataka, responsibility doesn’t rest with the school alone – it is shared by the entire community. With 69 children enrolled, the school reflects what happens when parents and the School Development and Monitoring Committee work together.
Every child in school, every day
In many underserved communities, children remain out of school – not due to lack of ability, but because of barriers we can help remove. Through ILP’s School Chalo campaign with partner NGO ROSA, children are identified, enrolled, and supported to stay in school through sustained community engagement.
What happened when a village invested Rs.22 lakh in its children
In Bairawadgi village in Karnataka, an Anganwadi that once ran out of a rented space with 7-8 children has been completely transformed. Community investment, active mothers’ committees, and ILP’s training model turned it into a vibrant learning centre – proof that change starts when the community takes ownership.
Model Schools Initiative
ILP’s Model Schools Initiative aims to transform 205 schools across 5 districts in Karnataka, reaching approximately 55,000 students, by improving conceptual learning and 21st-century skills. The Karnataka Model School Pathways Programme, supported by JSW Foundation, was recently recognized with the JSW Foundation Best Project Award. In Kalaburagi district, ILP partnered with the government to transform all 3,130 Anganwadis serving 108,000 children – training supervisors and workers across the district.
