Our approach
From enrollment to livelihood — a connected journey
India has made remarkable progress getting children into school. But enrollment alone does not guarantee learning, and learning alone does not guarantee a productive future. ILP was founded on the belief that staying in school, learning in school, and finding a path after school are not separate goals — they are one continuous pipeline. We design every program around that sequence.
What we do
Enable children to attain grade-appropriate skills and create pathways to productive careers
Why it works
Three stages. One connected pipeline.
Schooling, Learning, and Earning are not independent programs — each stage is both an outcome in itself and the foundation for the next. The logic is sequential and causal.
A child who leaves school early cannot benefit from learning programs or career guidance. ILP works with families, communities, and schools to enroll children, reduce dropout, and support smooth grade transitions -- because every subsequent stage depends on children being present.
Attendance without learning is time wasted. A child who cannot read, reason, or use a computer cannot make meaningful career choices. ILP brings science kits, libraries, computer labs, and trained teachers into government schools -- making learning tangible and school worth staying for.
Skills alone are not enough. Young people in rural India typically know only a handful of careers. ILP opens more than 100 pathways through counselling sessions, peer mentoring, and a career app -- turning years of schooling into informed, empowered choices about livelihood.
Evidence and accountability
Learning Level Assessments
Every year ILP conducts Learning Level Assessments (LLAs) across program schools, testing children on grade-appropriate literacy and numeracy benchmarks. Results directly inform how interventions are refined each academic year.
For the Earning stage, we track career awareness scores, counselling session completion rates, and post-school pathway uptake. Every program has defined output and outcome indicators reported annually to our board and funders.
